During this half term our topics will be ‘transport’ and ‘Christmas’. Teaching and learning will broadly follow the interests of the children but will also include some core texts and the following aspects of the Early Learning Foundation stage. In Personal, Social & Emotional Development we will: Learn to take turns and share fairly and begin to take responsibility for their own behaviour. In Communication and Language we will: learn to listen to and follow instructions with confidence, begin to explore the meaning of new words and experiment with language in imaginative role play. In Literacy we will: · begin to recognise and try to write our own name. In Mathematics we will: begin to read and write numerals up to 5, reliably count sets of objects and begin to name and describe some 2D shapes. In Understanding the World we will: learn about the community and different types of transport, become familiar with computers and begin to use iPads. In Physical Development we will: explore different ways of moving, learn to dress and undress independently, begin to learn how to balance and hold and use a pencil with good control. In Expressive Arts and Design we will: sing simple songs from memory, learn how to load a brush with paint correctly and explore what happens when we mix colours.
Autumn 1
In nursery this half term we look at the broad topics of Ourselves, where the children will look at and develop knowledge and understanding of their own feelings and emotions, learning to keep healthy and talking about themselves and what makes them special. Also we look at autumn as a season and the changes around us, where children will follow a rich and challenging learning experience with opportunities to explore, take risks and encounter first hand experiences. We also develop and expand children’s individual interests as they occur. Children have the opportunity to use our classroom and school library where we endeavor to develop a love of reading. There will (hopefully following Government guidelines) be an opportunity for parents to share our love of reading and attend a library session with our nursery children (further information to follow).
