Welcome to Year 6
Please visit Our Curriculum section of our website, where you will find our Class Overviews which detail what we will be learning this term.
This term children cover a range of nonfiction texts, including reports, diaries, non-chronological reports as well as narratives. In maths, children revise all elements of place value, fractions and all written methods of the four operations. In history, children learn about WW1 with a focus on Durham during this time. They use their knowledge of local heroes to investigate street names in geography. In science, children learn about earth, space and forces.
This half term our topics are as follows;
History – The battle of Britain
DT – food and healthy nutrition
Science – forces
Digital literacy – Media balance
P.E – gymnastics (building up to balancing on apparatus) and dance (Bollywood style)
French – Our World, looking at continents and weather
In English, we read Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorium and An Eagle in the Snow by Michael Morpurgo. Through these texts, we explore a range of text types whilst embedding basic skills.
In Maths we practise formal written methods of the four operations, including decimals, moving on to fractions, decimals and percentages.
